Not much on my mind these days, but I don't care. My life's been pretty boring. Basically nothing seems worth thinking about. I haven't been up to anything recently, but maybe tomorrow.

Sex Yawn Politics Thats Hot New York Times

As the campaign stretches into its second year in some corners it is simply seen as entertainment. You can t get much better drama than what we re seeing on the campaign trail said Charles Lachman the executive producer of Inside Edition the syndicated entertainment newsmagazine. It s the greatest reality show on television. People s fiercest competitor US Weekly has published essays by Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama interviews with Hillary Rodham Clinton and last month a three page spread pondering the question Barack Obama Is He Really Just Like Us The answer He really is When Cindy McCain discussed rumors of an extramarital affair by her husband for the first time she did so in an interview with Nancy O Dell of the celebrity television show Access Hollywood. When ! John and Elizabeth Edwards resurfaced for their first joint interview months after he dropped out of the presidential race they chose to do so in People magazine. And Mrs. Clinton allowed only pool coverage at a recent Elton John fund raiser but granted an exclusive backstage interview to Extra. There is of course what feels like unprecedented levels of interest in campaign coverage across all of the news media. But not since John F. Kennedy posed for Life magazine during the campaign tanned and windblown in his sailboat have the entertainment media been so infatuated with a presidential campaign. Since Life and Look we have not seen a nonpolitical magazine that has shown an interest in political figures as much as the gossip magazines are showing now said Samir Husni the chairman of the journalism department at the University of Mississippi and an authority on magazines. And it is mainly because they view the candidates as celebrities. It is also because having a woman and! a young photogenic man in the race hits the right notes demographically speaking the vast majority of readers of magazines like US Weekly are women. Many of those readers are for the first time paying close attention to the presidential primaries and turning politics into dinner party conversation. And for the first time in recent memory the presidential race has provided passion and drama worthy of a Hollywood catfight. When you look at the great celebrity dramas of the last few years you have Team Aniston Team Jolie Team Heidi and Team Lauren said Janice Min the editor of US Weekly. And now we have Team Hillary and Team Barack. Even at relatively minor turns in the news cycle syndicated shows like The Insider have covered the campaign relentlessly. In Tampa Fla. last month after a sermon by the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. was canceled the last reporter milling around a near empty church parking lot was Les Trent a correspondent for Inside Edition. TMZ.com the Web site that advertises itself as the official site for entertainment news celebr! ity gossip and Hollywood rumors has tracked all three candidates even posting a mundane video of Senator John McCain leaving a Beverly Hills restaurant on his st birthday. Editors and producers say that the readership and viewership numbers reveal that the demand for politics coverage has only increased as the race goes on. Producers at Inside Edition say they run at least one political story every day because the ratings are so high for those segments. Look at the crowds that Obama s attracting said Mr. Lachman of Inside Edition. That s all reflected in TV ratings. During the campaign editors hardly paid attention to Senator John Kerry or President Bush. Ms. Min of US Weekly said she ran a single spread about a celebrity fund raiser for Mr. Kerry. That was about as large as we went in terms of covering that campaign she said. Covering John Kerry just felt not so fun.
